Skincare Sunday: Clarins cleanser and toner

Hi there!

So far my weekend has been possibly the most unproductive few days in history as I've spent most of my time becoming a little too obsessed with Sherlock and watching back to back episodes (Benedict Cumberbatch though). This maybe wasn't the best plan as I have to hand in the second draft of the English coursework on Tuesday and I have a photography exam on Friday but I'm hoping apart from that everything is under control (I'm typing this so it seems more likely but inside I'm crying).

I'm starting up a new blog feature today called Skincare Sunday which is something I've been planning for a while but never got round to organising. I'll be uploading a review of a skincare product that I'm loving on the last Sunday of each month (imaginative feature title hey?) for the whole of 2014 and I'm really excited to upload the first part!

I'm starting off with two products from Clarins that (surprisingly) I haven't talked about before. I picked up the Clarins duel Cleanser at the Clothes Show Live back in December and have been loving using them to tackle my oily skin.I always find it difficult to find cleansers and toners to combat oily skin as ones I've tried in the past have either broken me out or just not helped my skins condition so these two were a breath of fresh air! At first I found the cleanser a little heavy but as I've used them more and more I've realised a little goes a long way!

I picked up the products aimed at oily skin but they are available for a variety of different skin types so each work really well at tackling all varieties of problematic skin. The toner is perfect at not just removing all traces of make up but also all the dirt and rubbish that gets into my skin throughout the day! The fragrance of both products is really fresh and after I've used them my skin feels super clean and amazing. This combination of products have definitely left my complexion a lot clearer and have even helped control my skins oiliness as I find my skin looking less and less shiny the more often I use them!

Let me know in the comments if you like this new feature and if you've tried any Clarins skincare products!

Mini Boots haul!

Hi there!

I must admit it felt a little like a miracle when I walked out of Boots last week having managed to only pick up three items as that shop is my biggest weakness. There is just something about Boots that makes me fill my basket full of make up and hair care products yet still manage to convince myself it's okay because it's not as expensive as high end (as I was typing this out I realised my theory makes no sense which is probably where I am going wrong...).

Bourjous bronzing primer- £9.99
Aussie hair mask- £1.09
L'Oreal Micellar Solution £3.33
I've been lusting after the Chanel 'Soleil tan de Chanel' for what seems like forever now but just can't justify spending so much money (oh to be a millionaire) so opted for the Bourjous version. I've seen many people talking about how similar this is to the Chanel bronzer so thought I'd give it a whirl and see how if I liked it. Oh gosh, this is probably THE lovliest bronzer ever!! Although it's branded as a primer, I've been wearing it over my foundation (I know, what a wild life I lead) on my cheekbones and I've been loving it. Not only is it amazing at adding another dimension to my make up look but it also smells incredible so you can't really go wrong!

I thought I'd give my hair a little treat and after browsing for a ridiculously long time in the hair care section decided to pick up the Aussie 3 'Minute Miracle' hair mask. I've stopped using heat on my hair completely now *claps hands for healthier hair* but thought I'd give my locks a little conditioning treat with this mask. It was only £1.09 and there is so much product in the sachet that I used it 3 times to give my hair a deep condition :)

Lastly is another product which has been talked about non stop in the blogging world because of its similarities to Bioderma and it's the 'Skin Perfection' Micellar solution from L'oreal. I've been on the hunt for Bioderma for some time but seeing as it's not readily avaiable in the UK I figured that this would be the next best thing. I've been loving using this to remove all my eye make-up because it removes all traces of mascara and eyeliner so effortlessly!

That's all from my mini haul (ooh I'm a poet and I didn't know it) but I'm super happy with everything I picked up. I might even have to make another trip back to Boots to celebrate...

2013 favourites part two!

Hi there!

About a week ago I uploaded the first part of my 2013 favourites which was based around all my most loved beauty products of the last year. I thought it would be nice to upload a part two which has some more general favourites that don't really fit into the make up category!

Soap and Glory Righteous Butter
This product is quite possibly the definition of heaven in a tub. I'm really lazy when it's comes to body moisturing after baths/showers but since getting a selection of soap and glory prodcuts for my birthday last year, I've been getting into it a lot more! This is my favourite body moisturiser because not only does it smell absoloutley incredible but it also sinks into the skin super quickly so you don't have to dance around the bathroom waiting for it to absorb so you can get dressed again (not like I've ever done that...)

Essie Nail polishes
2013 was the year I went a bit crazy with nail polishes and Essie definitley became my favourite brand. The best thing about these nail varnishes is they dry SO QUICKLY! I'm literally the most impatient person ever when it comes to waiting for my nails to dry and so these are perfect not only if you're in a bit of a hurry but also if you're just ridiculously impatient like me!

Real Techniques brushes
The blogging and beauty world certainly loved the Real Techniques collections last year and I must admit I jumped on the bandwagon too (I regret nothing!). I have the Core Collection, Eye Starter Set and the Stippling Brush but my clear favourites are definitely the buffing and contour brush! I use the buffing brush ever single day to apply my foundation and it's also perfect for blending conceler together too. I really the contour brush for applying my blusher and will definitley be using them throughout 2014 too.

Marc Jacobs 'Daisy'
Not only is the prettiest perfume bottle e v e r but it also smells incredible too (perfect combination!). I'm awful at describing scents but this perfume is branded as having heart notes of violet and top notes of wild strawberries (sounds good enough to eat right?!) but it's just a lovely fresh and floral scent which would be perfect for the spring season.

MAC 217
There is just something about make up brushes that makes me extremely happy and I'm not even sure why. The sleek and professional look of the MAC brushes is definitely what first drew me to get my hands on one as well as the glowing reviews I've previously read of this blending brush. This brush is one of my favourites in my whole collection because it just blends all my eyeshadows together so seamlessly. If I was to recommend one thing from this post then it would 100% be this! Although it's a little pricey for a brush I think it's really worth the money for how lovely it can make eyeshadows look :)

Barry M Gelly polishes
Again onto the theme of nail varnishes, the Barry M Gelly range have been a firm favourite of mine over 2013. They give such a shiny and glossy look to my nails and the colour range is lovely too.

Origins Super Spot remover
I did a more detailed review of this product which you can read here but this is such an amazing product! It has helped my skin so much over the past year and is amazing for drying up spots and helping the healing process happen more quickly. ALthough it's only a teeny tiny bottle it lasts such a long time as a little goes a very long way!

I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my other favourite products of the last year!

ps. more random favourites include:
-The Great Gatsby
-Midnight Memories album
-Inception
-The 1975
-Youtube (couldn't leave that one out could I?;)

Nails of the week!

Hi there!

I hold my hands up, nail polishes are my weakness. The pretty glass bottles in all shapes and sizes filled with every colour imaginable is enough to make me go weak at the knees and I'm (hoping) that some of you feel the same! I always like doing nail art/design posts but I thought it would just be nice to show which sort of colour I go for on a daily basis.

For some reason I have a ridiculously large and ever growing  blue nail polish collection and so this is the colour I probably go for the most. This is one of my favourite polishes for adding a pop of colour for an outfit because it's such a bright and pretty blue shade! The formula of all Miss Sporty polishes are amazing but this one in particular is perfect because it's opaque in just two coats (yay for drugstore nail varnish!). Miss Sporty is also possibly THE most affordable brand out there and so at only £1.99 you can't really go wrong!

Let me know what you're wearing on your nails this week in the comments!

The pink coat

Yesterday someone told me that I looked like candyfloss when I was wearing my new coat and I'm going to take this as a compliment. Candyfloss aside I think I am in love with this coat from Topshop which I picked up a just after christmas with some vouchers I recieved from family as presents. It's the perfect pastel pink colour in a gorgeous fluffy material that I think looks so adorable. I love wearing this piece and clashing it with other textured materials like my mohair jumper which is probably my favourite outfit at the moment (and very warm for waiting at bus stops in the morning!)

My only issue with this coat is that the buttons are not attached amazingly well and the stiches can be seen on the coat (only a minor detail) but apart from that I'm planning to wear it for the entire spring season! I picked mine up in a size 6 and because of the style of the coat it fits perfectly to look over sized and more casual. At £89 it's not the cheapest design around but I love it so much that I' was 100% willing to pay.

2013 favourites!

Hi there!

This post may seem a little late (oops) but I've been super busy over Christmas seeing family and just generally have a fun time (who doesn't love Christmas hey?) so sorry I've been a bit MIA on the blogging front. 2013 favourites have been done to death in the blogging and youtube world in the past week or so but I thought it would be nice to do this instead of a January favourites post that I had planned for later in the month because this means I can talk about a bigger variety of products; yay!

Also the observant of you may have noticed that 'Charlotte's Web' has had a little make over recently and I'm now super happy with it! Recently I'd been feeling really annoyed with myself that I'm so bad with technology and couldn't make my blog look prettier *cries with frustration* but I played around with things a little and googled some things quite a bit and I think I finally like it! Let me know in the comments if you like the new look!

Beauty favourites of 2013

Mac Mineralise Skin Finish - Soft and Gentle
One of my first favourites, which will come as no surprise to regular readers is my Mac Mineralise Skin Finish in the shade 'Soft and Gentle'. If you're looking for the perfect highlighter then this is 100% it! If you're not a fan of more glittery highlights then I might not recommend this as it is quite shimmery however it gives the perfect highlight to your cheekbones and I definitely think it draws the light to all the right places! A little on the pricey side but I'll definitely be repurchasing when this runs out (if it ever does hit pan, mine still looks brand new!)

Kiko Concealer
When putting together this post this is one of the first things that came to mind as a favourite for 2013. The perfect under eye concealer and so affordable too! It has such a lovely creamy formula so it's really blendable and covers even the most noticeable dark circles.

Mac Studio Fix Fluid
Best. foundation. ever. I've done a previous post on this foundation before which you can read HERE for more detail but it really does create the perfect flawless base. Recently I had fallen out of love with this foundation a little because I felt that the colour was a bit too dark for my skin tone during winter but I've since been mixing it with my Revlon BB cream and oh my this = perfect combo ever!

YSL BabyDoll mascara

I only recieved this mascara for Christmas so I wasn't really sure if I could include it as a favourite for 2013 but it's just so amazing that I couldn't leave it out! The formula is absoloutley incredible and the wand grips my lashes so so well that it adds lots much volume (yay). I used the Benefit 'They're real' mascara a lot over 2013 and was considering adding that one in too but I'm thinking I may do a more detailed post to compare the two? Let me know if you'd like to see that! Although YSL products are a bit more of a luxury/treat, if you're going to pick one thing to try then I think this mascara would definitely be one to go for :)

Urban Decay Naked Palette 1

This palette has quite possibly changed my life (not even exageratting). It contains the most perfect neutral shades ever all of which are amazingly pigmented and the palette in general is just such good quality! I'm not a huge fan of the packaging as the velvet can look a bit grubby in comparison to their newer designs for the Naked 2 and 3 but all the same it is very compact for travelling. I would even go as far to say this is the best neutral palette ever (bold claims I know but seriously, swatch it if you don't believe me!)

Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeliner pen
Throughout 2013 I loved wearing liquid liner, there was something about how simple and effortless it is that I think always looks  amazing! I've tried countless eyeliner pens to try and draw the perfect flick but none have been as easy to use as the Scandaleyes pen from Rimmel! The pen is the perfect thickness for creating a smooth line which can be super thin and defined or a lot thicker if you use it at an angle. I have one in the black shade which is very dark. Again I love this because some others I have tried have been a little grey and looked quite washed out in colour in comparison. Rimmel is such an affordable brand too so yay for the drugstore!

I did have a few more photo's of some favourites but I thought it might be better to have a shorter but sweet post so that I could talk in more detail about my most loved beauty products! If you would like to see another post with some more general/random favourites of last year then let me know :)

January blues

Hi there!

2014 has somehow rolled around and I can imagine I'm not the only one confusedly putting up a new calender and wondering how 2013 came and went so quickly! I've made a few new years resolutions, one of which is to blog more this year (yay!).I'm also going to focus on fashion and style because that's where I'm hoping my blog will be going this year.I thought I'd ease myself into my first post of the new year by sharing my favourite blue nail polishes because my addiction to buying nail varnish is spiraling somewhat out of control. The tile of this post is inspired by the Arctic Monkeys song 'knee socks' so maybe give that a play in the background whilst you're reading this...

Essie is quite possibly my favourite nail polish brand of all time and so when I found this little baby in my stocking on christmas day I died a little inside (slight exaggeration).   It's the perfect navy for January and as always with eEssie has an amazing formula. Although in certain lights it could be mistaken for a black nail polish, I love the more gothic feel of this it in comparison to my almost entirely pastel based collection and so it's a winner for me. 'Get your number' is my first OPI polish and oh my it definitley won't be the last! This shade is from their liquid sand collection (possibly limited edition but I'm not 100% sure?) and reminds me of an intergalactic galaxy or something haha (IT'S SO GLITTERY!). I've had many a compliment when wearing this in the past and it's definitley one to go for if you want something a bit bolder. It 's the most difficult thing to remove from your nails e v e r which sometimes puts me off wearing it slightly but that aside it's my go-to glitter polish. Lastly is perhaps one of my most loved nail polishes (a pastel? wow what a surpise Charlotte!) and it's Barry M's 'New moon'. This is the perfect baby blue if you want something a little more subtle this January but it definitley needs a couple of coats to give the best colour :)

Let me know in the comments what your favourite blue nail varnishes are because I'm always looking to expand my collection ^_^
